Hypothetical Who would forgo our PL status for playing at Upton Park

It's long gone now of course with some of our younger fans never having had the pleasure, as time evolves this will become the majority.
For me the Bowl (with no soul) will never raise a glove regardless of the level of football to Upton Park but maybe i should move with the times get myself some popcorn & a hot

Like most, I loved Upton Park and have a lot of memories that I hold very dear and always will. My ST wasn't renewed when we left, nothing to do with the move but because of my daughter being born. I am not for one minute suggesting parents of young children should not go to football, far from it, it was just what was best for me and my family situation. Long working hours during the week mean weekends are very precious.

The fact is, as many have pointed out, we can't go back, it's done and dusted and we have to make the most of it. When I first went to the LS I didn't like it, I am not saying I love it now, but I am far more used to it when I do go and the fact is I support and want to go and watch West Ham, catch up with some lifelong friends and have a few beers. That has never changed, it runs in my family and is part of my life, regardless of where they play. Life as a West Ham fan is great right now, let's enjoy it.

I've only been to the new stadium twice. There's no doubt that it's a magnificent piece of architecture.

The first time it felt like going to watch West Ham at a neutral ground, albeit one that had West Ham branding all over it. It was *that* game against Burnley, remembered more for the splendid demonstration than for the four miserable goals conceded without reply.

But remembered too for the sense of separation, the distance between fan and field that made you feel as if you're watching the game from afar rather than participating in it. Whatever part of the Boleyn you were in, you were always taking part in the theatre.

The London Stadium is a city made up of little villages. The Boleyn was one great, rowdy village.

Surely Stratford is a better location than Upton Park? Still East London, but nearer central London. Arguably better pubs and grub places, plus more transport options?

That's about where I am too. It is entirely possible to miss the old whilst embracing the new. The walk to the LS for the last two Europa games with the outside lit up really set me up for a great night.

As to Popcorn. I walk past the stand have a little smirk and get on with enjoying my day, It's ENTIRELY possible not to get worked up about it.

Its not cringy, its just there.

I loved Upton Park and can recount for days on end the memories of times spent there. What's more the Boleyn is inextricably linked to memories of my parents who lived in East Ham; I'd park up outside, see them, walk to the match, walk home after, have a drink and something to eat with them and then go. But time moves on. Sometimes it's hard and you yearn for those days but anyone who thinks the heart wasn't torn out of the Boleyn when the hotel went up is a fool. It was NEVER the same after. It was time we moved and we've not moved to Basildon or somewhere not associated with West Ham either; we've stayed in our area but one with better rail links and more associated with the 21st Century instead of the 19th. It's not ideal - a purpose-built stadium in the QE park would have been better - but it will get better (as it has already). As it is I really, really like it and I love being at the cutting edge of something exciting. In answer to your question - I don't want to go back whatever our status.

It's fucking cringeworthy seeing the popcorn stalls, Norman. Not to mention it's not a "proper" football stadium, then saying that a lot of the newer stadiums aren't/

Most people like going to the Olympic Stadium. Obviously it isn't fashionable to say so. Been some decent atmospheres this year. Plenty of places to drink. Better transport links. Its far from ideal but I enjoy going there

Lots I don’t miss about Upton Park to be fair.

Longer we are away the better Upton Park seems to get. That said didn’t want to move to LS. The site is a good location though.

For what it’s worth atmosphere this year is brilliant. Helps with a good team.
Said for years but LS would be rubbish in championship if half empty.

The truth is you have no idea about that. The 'bowl' stadia are often just separated by a door like that. And I'm not sure I'd call that silly video "storming"!

Hard to make a reasoned assessment of match day atmosphere in the stadium if you haven’t been in there since the Burnley game in March 2018.
